Finding a niche to make you money

Learning how to find a niche was the key factor in my internet marketing journey to make me money. My first experiences in internet marketing lead me down niche paths of unbearable competition. I had no true understanding of how SEO worked and figured that my desire to succeed would just miraculously take me straight to the top of search engine rankings instantly. Never really thinking as if I was starting a business in the neighborhood. By that I mean, I wouldn't put up a mom and pop's pharmacy next to a Rite Aid, I'd most likely go out of business quickly. The same applies to the internet, you have to find the section of the internet, keywords, that haven't been taken over by the top echelon members of the internet. It takes some work to do it, but its all worth it when you find that cozy niche.

The key to learn how to find a niche is to make sure your niche is very specific, or what we like to call a micro niche. A micro niche would be a very keyed in part of market, such as a specific model of high definition televisions. We'd say that televisions would be the large market, high definition televisions would be a niche, and the specific model of high definition televisions would be a micro niche. Pretty easy right?

How to find a niche

  • First gather up a list of 100-150 keyword ideas you have that you're passionate about. By passionate, I mean you'd be able to talk about it almost every day and always have something interesting to say. This is key to learning how to find a niche, search engines love content and you'll need a lot of it to get to the top.
  • Check every keyword on your list on Google's Keyword Tool. This will help you understand what kind of traffic is being driven to your keyword, the competition of it, and if it's worth it to pursue it.
  • Once you've found some keywords you like, check search engine results for the Page Rank of the top results. If the Page Rank is high, usually 4 or greater, it will be difficult for you to over come the competition in 6 months or less.

If all have checked out, you've found a niche to work on. If it hasn't, go back and search again. This is a pain, I know, but its worth it in the end. However, I have used time and time again with great success, Micro Niche Finder to find my niches and keywords. It eliminates the need to go through all the nuances of searching for a keyword by having everything presented right in front of you. It even gives you an ad cost for AdSense to get a rough estimate of what you'll expect to be paid by Google for every click on your AdSense.
